100 Illustrations (Run by Diana Evans) is hosting a call for entries for a new (2nd) book to promote illustrators.

From the blog: "As many of you are lovers of art and food we thought it would be fun to work on a book that features Illustrators around the world with a nod to their favorite foods....make your work fun and incorporate the food or foods that make you feel happy.....This project is free for everyone to participate in and the gift back to you is getting your work published."

They Draw and Travel Youtopia contest : February 10th

They Draw and Travel are hosting another map illustration contest! Here is the description:


For this contest a winning map will be a super pretty illustration focusing on all the special and specific things you love most about your favorite place. Think about it this way: if your best friend was coming to visit you, what things would you two do together? Or, maybe you would go on a great little road-trip to someplace you love. Sure, there might be a couple 'touristy' activities on your agenda, but you would probably also visit many places that are off-the-beaten-path and not found in a typical guidebook, right? You don't need to include specific addresses, but enough information so someone might want to print this map out and take it with them as a reminder of all the great things to do!

Picture Book Dummy Challenge : Jan 9th - July 1st

The KidLit Art blog (which accompanies the #kidlitart chats on twitter) is hosting its second annual 25-week-long online Picture Book Dummy Challenge!

Anyone can participate and the schedule is like so:

STEP 1: Pick your project (1 week) Jan. 9-Jan. 15

STEP 2: Draft the story (4 weeks) Jan. 16-Feb. 12

STEP 3: Develop the characters (2 weeks) Feb. 13-Feb. 26

STEP 4: Storyboard text and art (2 weeks) Feb. 27-Mar. 11

STEP 5: Render tight, full-size sketches (8 weeks) Mar. 12-May 6

STEP 6: Produce final art of two spreads (4 weeks) Mar. 12-May 6

STEP 7: Assemble the dummy (2 weeks ) Jun. 4-Jun. 17

STEP 8: Research submissions; prepare dummy package (1 week) Jun. 18-Jun. 24

STEP 9: Submit (1 week) Jun. 25-Jul. 1 

Each step in the challenge will be introduced by a post on the kidlitart blog

Participants are invited to check in via the comments section at any time to share progress or ask questions . . . and there will be a “How’s it going?” chat scheduled at the close of each step in the process.

Book Illustration competition : January 10, 2012

The House of Illustration and The Folio Society are collaborating on The Book Illustration Competition. 


The winning entry will form part of a Folio Society commission for the book which will be published in August 2012, for which the winner will receive £4,000. Five runners up will each receive a cash prize of £500.

“Good morning, Goosey Loosey, Ducky Daddles, Cocky Locky, Henny Penny, and Chicken Licken,” said Turkey Lurkey, “where are you going?”
“Oh, Turkey Lurkey, the sky is falling and we are going to tell the King!” 
“How do you know the sky is falling?” asked Turkey Lurkey.
